Like countless other women, I learned very early on in life that showing any anger was a bad thing - 'sugar and spice and all things nice - that is what lttle girls are made of'. Somehow I figured out that the best way to avoid punishment and humiliation was to hide my feelings, and without ever being aware of quite how or when, somehow I learnt to do this so well that eventually my feelings were hidden even from myself. I began to wake up to this loss of my emotional self and I discovered that underneath my mild mannered and calm public face there was a part of me that was absolutely furious. This became the start of a long journey into understanding my own and others relationship with anger, and working on ways of transforming this energy into playfulness, passion and power. Originally trained in Social Work, my employment has given me opportunities to gain experience in a variety of roles including Criminal Justice, Community Music, Adult Education and Domestic Violence. I have always been interested in groupwork and over the last fifteen years I have run groups as diverse as vocal improvisation and live band workshops as well as more formal programmes based on cognitive behavioural therapy ( CBT ) principles. One area of my work gave me experience in facilitating accredited groupwork programmes specifically focussing on anger. Effective as these groups might be, I felt that there was a depth of human contact that was lacking. This led me to consider how I might improve on what is currently available, and develop a pathway towards reframing anger in order to harness it's positive energy and empower women to reach their true potential - an issue that is dear to my heart. Over the years I have explored many paths of growth and self development as a means of empowering myself including Tantra, Meditation, Healing, Performing Musician and Composer, Dancing, Visual Arts, Body and Voice work and training as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I completed my training to diploma level in 2007 and as UKCP registered counsellor and psychotherapist and member of BACP I adhere to a strict code of ethical practice. In my process of creating r-a-g-e workshops for women and anger I have enjoyed experimenting with combining those elements of each that I personally find to be the most powerful tools for transformation. On my own journey I have learnt that change can feel scary but the prospect of staying the same is even more terrifying. In order to grow it is essential that we learn to face our fears and receive the support we need to continue our progress. This is the essence of r-a-g-e workshops, creating a safe and enjoyable experience we can share as women, having fun along the way. If you are ready to join with others on your own journey of discovery you will be warmly welcomed as together we search for the hidden treasure that is the true reflection of ourselves. Thank you for taking the time to explore r-a-g-e workshops and I look forward to sharing what I have learned with you. |
